Quotes

The Start of a New Beginning

We will persist until we succeed

The prizes of life are at the end of each journey, not near the beginning; and it is not given to us to know how many steps are necessary in order to reach our goal.  Failure we may still encounter at the thousandth step; yet success hides behind the next bend in the road.  Never will we know how close it lies unless we turn the corner.  Always will we take another step.  If that is of no avail, we will take another, and yet another.  In truth, one step at a time is not too difficult.

We will persist until we succeed

Most people give up just when they're about to achieve success.  They quit on the one yard line.  They give up at the last minute of the game, one foot from a winning touchdown.

Poem By Rudyard Kipling

IF.....

IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Coach Shared this poem at our last agility work out.
The Cold Within

Six humans trapped by happenstance
in black and bitter cold
Each possessed a stick of wood,
Or so the story's told.

Their dying fire in need of logs,
the first woman held hers back
For on the faces around the fire
She noticed one was black.

The next man looking 'cross the way
Saw one not of his church
And couldn't bring himself to give
The fire his stick of birch.

The third one sat in tattered clothes
He gave his coat a hitch,
Why should his log be put to use
To warm the idle rich?

The rich man just sat back and thought
Of the wealth he had in store,
And how to keep what he had earned
 From the lazy, shiftless poor.

The black man's face bespoke revenge
As the fire passed from his sight,
For all he saw in his stick of wood
Was a chance to spite the white.

And the last man of this forlorn group
Did naught except for gain,
Giving only to those who gave
Was how he played the game.

The logs held tight in death's stilled hands
Was proof of human sin,
They didn't die from the cold without,
They died from the cold within.

Prayer

When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate,,everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard:

'Heavenly Father, We come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good' But that is exactly what we have done.

We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.

 We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery.

We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.

We have killed our unborn and called it choice.

We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.

We have neglected to discipline our children and called it Building self esteem.

We have abused power and called it politics.

We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition.

We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of speech and expression.

 We have ridiculed the time honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; Cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Amen!'

The response was immediate.  A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest.  In 6 short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively.  The church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India , Africa and Korea.

Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio Program, 'The Rest of the Story,' and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired.

If possible, please pass this prayer on to your friends

'If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.'

Thank you to all the parents who got out of bed extra early to see their sons work out.

Jimmy Plaskey received a plaque from Coach Fracassa for attending agility drills, with 100% attendance, for all four years.  Congratulations Jimmy!

The 2008 agility drills were one of the, if not the,  most highly attended in history.  We know this is a sign of great things to come for the 2008 football season.  Shamari put it best, "Watch us seniors work!"

100% of next year's seniors attended at least one session.  That is phenomenal!!!
